Dragon-fruit is in season. RM6 per kg. The fruit seller insists that the red flesh version is the original version but Google doesn't confirm anything. A cactus species, with fragrant white flowers that are romantically called Moonflower or Queen of the Night as they only bloom at night. Low low calories! Yay!

Kiwifruit seems to be in season too. I bought a packet of 6 fruits for RM6.59 which is cheaper than usual. Strangely kiwifruit seeds are similiar to those of the dragon fruit's. Small, black crunchy ones. And both have rather juicy, sticky flesh. But taste wise kiwi has a sharp tanginess at the end you would never guess at first bite. Kiwi is not native to Australia or New Zealand as some may assume. Originally referred to as Chinese Gooseberry and was renamed Kiwi due to political connotations caused by Cold War. Also known as Bali Ciku though our ciku tastes better anytime. Has blood thinning effect.. lowers fat in blood...bring them on!

Grape fruit. Ultimate diet fruit mentioned in every modern diet menu. Said to be the Seven wonders of Barbados, a hybrid of pomelo and sweet orange. Help's body metabolism burn fat. But interacts with many drugs.. so watch out. Only a hint of sweetness and very sour and leaves a bitter taste in your mouth...a small price to pay to get back into shape!

Mata Kucing. Only buy those in mid season.. plump and juicy. Very sweet. So what has it got to do with diet? Even those on diet need short bursts of sugar sometimes.. right? So chill these little gems and have a few when you get the craves. One interesting fact, the seeds apparently can be used to cure snake bites.

Raspberry. Very pretty to look at. End of story actually. Taste wise.. hmm.. kinda sour, hint of sweetness.. no distinctive taste...why they usually come smothered in sugar or cream to hype up its image. I don't mind making the effort if they grew wild in our bushes...but for RM20 for 170gm (Driscoll), I'll pass. But if you need to indulge.. dump them into yogurt!

Strawberry. Another hyped up fruit variety.. its image as the ultimate dessert fruit is a bit more well-deserving than raspberries to be fair. Sharp, tangy and some months can be quite sweet. Sits very pretty on top of cakes and ice-creams. Dipped in melted chocolate, not sure whether it is clever marketing strategy that claims its aphrodisiac effect. According to wikianswer, 100-200 calories can be burnt in half an hour's sex! So get the strawberries in and dump the exercise machines!

Pineapple. Need detox? RM1.50 per fruit or RM100 spa? No brainer! Juice it and you are ready to go. Apparently cleans up the intestines very well. Like clorox down toilet bowl! ;)
