Asam Laksa

Unless you are a local, it is not easy to find the right place to eat in Pengkalan Hulu (Kroh). The town is laidback and people are mainly low profiled. And if you are finicky about where you eat.. (and like me can't stand the sight of a fly near food).. head to this stall.. next to the bus station and the only one with an old jukebox (i love these things). The Chinese lady who runs the stall herself is a picture of orderliness.. every hair in place... and if you peeped into her fridge, every raw ingredient is kept refrigerated in separate containers even when business is peaking. You can hear the constant opening and closing of the fridge door.. as she calmly and meticulously arranges each portion with a gloved hand. Hence why I love eating in her stall..not only it is very clean, but you go home with a good feeling in your tummy and your psyche. She specialises in laksa, rojak and dessert drinks...such as ABC and my personal favourite Ais Buah .. fresh cut fruits topped with shaven ice oozing with syrup and milk.

I am firm believer of food cooked and served with love and passion... hence such shows like AFC's Hell's Kitchen gives me the creeps! Would I eat food cooked by a bunch of foul-mouthed, bad tempered, negatively charged individuals? Hell, no! Even if someone pays me for it!

So, getting back to the laksa. It's a great version of Penang Asam Laksa which has a clear broth. The right balance of sweet, sour and spicy and moorish.. just like a self-respecting laksa should be.. and her otak udang sauce packs a punch!
