WATER POLLUTION
Water pollution is a serious problem in the global context. It has been suggested that it is the leading worldwide cause of death and disease, and that it accounts for the deaths of more than 14,000 people daily.
AIR POLLUTION
The World Health Organization estimates that 4.6 million people die each year from causes directly attributable to air polution. Research published in 2005 suggests that 310,000 Europeans die from air pollution annually. Direct causes of air pollution related deaths include aggravated asthma, bronchitis, emphysema, lung and heart diseases, and respiratory allergies.
LAND POLLUTION
Soil contamination is the presence of man-made chemicals or other alteration to the natural soil environment. This type of contamination typically arises from rupture of underground storage tanks, application of pesticides and herbicides, percolation of contaminated surface water to subsurface strata, leaching of wastes from landfills or direct discharge of industrial wastes to the soil. The major concern is that there are many sensitive land uses where people are in direct contact with soils such as residences, parks, schools and playgrounds. Other contact mechanisms include contamination of drinking water or inhalation of soil contaminants which have vaporized.
Radioactive contamination
Radioactive contamination is typically the result of a loss of control of radioactive materials during the production or use of radioisotopes. Some radioisotopes may target specific organs and have much lower removal rates. For instance, the thyroid gland takes up a large percentage of any iodine that enters the body. If large quantities of radioactive iodine are inhaled or ingested, the thyroid may be impaired or destroyed, while other tissues are affected to a lesser extent
OUTER SPACE POLLUTION
Space craft launch, space probes projects>What is left unnoticed >Debris, gases, noxious substances>solid object drift-aways>Buildup of masses in space eventually reenters
earthsorbit and get sucked in by gravity>Masses hurled back to earth surface ending in collision
A 3 inch screw can have an impact equivalent of asteroid collision of miles radius-Discovery Channel
Tragedies waiting to happen?
