Muhyiddin: Stop racial slants

Muhyiddin: Stop racial slants
KUALA LUMPUR: Racially slanted statements are unacceptable and against the 1Malaysia concept, said Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

Calling on the people to refrain from using inflammatory words that could create unnecessary problems, he said Malaysians must treasure the existing good inter-racial relations.

Muhyiddin said this when asked to comment on the term pendatang (immigrant) published in a Malay daily on May 31.

......The statement in the daily read “Di manakah anda boleh mendapat layanan politik yang baik untuk kaum pendatang?” (Where can you find a place where immigrants get good political treatment?) ................

Shouldn't the writer of this article, Awang Selamat from Utusan Malaysia, be arrested under the Seditions Act for stoking racial sentiments?

Why are double standards practised in such issues?

Teresa Kok was wrongly arrested under ISA for something she was accused of but was later found innocent.
A female chinese reporter was arrested under ISA for reporting a racial comment by Ahmad Ismail, for which he got away scot-free.

Now, Awang Selamat has his racial comments published in the Utusan (in black and white!) and nothing is being done about him? I am sure he is going to continue writing more of such issues in the future if he is not severely punished. I am sure he was given just a verbal warning.

It is not what you say but who you are saying those things against and who you are that says it!

It is very perplexing. On the one hand, the BN government wants the 1Malaysia concept to be accepted by the people while on the other hand, it practises double standards. This is unfair and seen by the people as unfair. Arrest Awang Selamatt and Ahmad Ismail under ISA to restore the credibility of the BN government.

Who is the one who said " ...no one is above the law...." ? The Home Minister and the IGP. But in actual fact the laws are in their hands. Utusan has openly and repeatedly challenged the laws and never even gets a warning. Awang Selamat, Ahmad Ismail...are all well shielded because.........

This is exactly what Awang Selamat wants. He'd probably anticipated this & want to provoke people (not the first person). Come to think of it, if we want to do away with ISA then shouldn't the papers not make a big fuzz over this type of news? Our 1M'sia PM is working hard to bring us together. Like a slow cooking pot like that, it might take a while but eventually the ingredients will bound together. I sincerely wish for the 1Malaysia dream to be realized.

we Malaysian are so naive.. don't you all get it??? The only reason this likes of Awang Selamat can get away with his so called comments, is because that is precisely what 'the people' who 'let' him want to be said. Except they are chicken sh*t cowards hiding behind little mosquitoes like Awang to do their dirty work ... so that we naive Malaysians will second guess and keep living in denial. Wake up la! Want it or not, our past leaders , i personally blame Tun Mahathir and all the post Merdeka leaders for having brought us here.. question how you going to rectify it, coz these idiots have somehow convinced themselves that they are the rightful benefactors and trying to erase the history that won't even give them an origin. But of course we the pendatangs havent done a big deal in the respective countries either. Only thing left , is we need to be learn to share a small piece of the pie and it aint too big or too great to begin with in the first place.

Yes, I have heard Muhyiddin said something like a "misunderstanding" over TV in last night's news. Was he protecting the writer? I thought the subject of "Pendatang" was put to rest with the intervention of MCA?

Awang Selamat should be arrested IMMEDIATELY under the ISA!!!

By Mickey008, 3-Jun-2009
Why this guy like to spice up the sensitive issue? We had been independence for 52 years now yet people like Awang Selamat..still live in year 1959. Boths should be responsible to what he write & the editor of this daily newspaper should arrested according on sedition act to ISA.
Why cover up, Govt..where is the 1Malaysia spirit?
If they can let go, then why the reporter is arrested in ISA last year..for her safety?
Dont want to talk more or else...ISA.

I think the whole BN should be arrested under ISA for promoting racial segregation and acting like the asian version of Klu Klax Klan. How's that everbody? Sounds good?

Di manakah anda boleh mendapat layanan politik yang baik untuk kaum pendatang?”

I can bet no action will be taken againts the paper and writer because .....u know y lah
By vijaysvk1, 3-Jun-2009

In such a case, I don't think the writer is the ONLY person to take the blame...the editor of the newspaper should shoulder the blame as well. As an editor, this person should know better than to allow that kind of article to be printed. Shame on the editor for not doing his/her job. A public apology should be issued by the newspaper.

My view is that the UMNO leaders are bunch of hypocrites. They tell the people the importance of respect, tolerance, being sensitive and to be united with the 1Malaysia concept and yet when their party controlled paper comes out with article after article of racist remarks that would create racial tension, they do not take
any action and act as though its okay.

By anthony001, 3-Jun-2009

Lets see whether Utusan will do anything bout this.

Will the editor hide, pretends that nothing ever happened, while praying that everyone will forget about it?

Or will he stand still in his point, ignoring this issue, even knowingly that it is his fault?
By itsf00, 3-Jun-2009

What Awang Selamat said was right.
By watansatria, 3-Jun-2009

Yes, what awang selamat said is right. That why, he will be awang tak selamat very soon.
By sri911, 3-Jun-2009

Only way to stop racial slants is to start from its root cause which is to educate and dicipline UMNO.

The God will judge him "later".
By DATUK_KL, 3-Jun-2009

Get him in ISA? Wake up people, it won't happen.

In Bolehland, its not what you say, its who you are.
By alanmnl, 3-Jun-2009

As for me, this Awang Selamat is like a chicken terrorist. He doesn’t sound intelligent and looks like he is writing nonsense for the sake of writing and it is all via UMNO’s instruction and at time with his own pea brains.

After all, a political party pays his salary and he might get 12 lunches / dinners free annually, sponsored by this political party and a few handshakes from some top guns before his head grow even bigger so that he can write more glowing stories about some idiots, some free Tom yam soup with the boss and staff and this also is claimable from the political party, goes back around 5.30.
By super_structure, 4-Jun-2009

Guys, believe me or not, this filthy chicken Awang Selamat have stopped writing his usual nonsensical articles ever since the DPM steps in. Lets see if this idiot will be heding to Kamunting or otherwise.
