Aunties are nearly always synonym to good food and one of my aunts, Saro, introduced me to pineapple crumble at the age of 17. I stayed with her for nearly 2 years during my upper secondary and i used to rummage through her fridge after midnight looking for something to snack on while i slaved thru Additional Maths and Physics. Most of the time i'd end up finishing her next morning's supply of Gardenia bread... tho Henry and she were always good natured about such things..
She introduced me to raspberry cheese cakes too (but after missing one half of the cake mysteriously, she stopped making it. Burp!)
But i simply love her Pineapple crumble with a hint of cinnamon baking in the oven. I could finish a whole tray if she would let me... (oopss.. i did, did i? ok, maybe, once..with the help of Tiki and Kea -the two adorable dogs who kept me company those longggg nights)
Anyway, even after 20 years, im still hooked on it... every time i see pineapples, i think of making one... like i wanted to this evening after getting the ripest, sweetest pineapple for only 1.50 at pasar malam.. except i finished eating it raw (with the help of my 7 year old partner in crime) before i could do anything else... well.. rr.. memories still stay good memories..
Did i say, custard sauce goes well with pineapple crumble... ? Feel good stuff. Maybe she will bake me some one of these days..
Errr.. Auntie Saro? U dont happen to read this blog, do you?

Nice reminiscence of your good times with your auntie Saro. Unfortunately, she appears to be internet-shy. She would certainly be delighted to read this one though. Just send her a message, Kalei.
Have a nice day
With warm regards
Siva
hehe, looks like we all rummage the fridge during those years.
