Then u reach a stage where, a few extra pounds are no big deal when all the goodies are staring you at u in the face.
When my grandma was around, she made great meals. Breakfast was always there by 7am, a generous lunch by 1pm and we'd heat up the leftovers for dinner. I missed those days waking up to the aroma of roti canai, tosai, idli, capati, uppuma and many more pervading the house in the freshness of the morning. Though i rarely ate anything then but im beating myself for it now. Probably that's why the saying goes, "you'll never miss something till its gone..".
My mom on the other hand, has decided to adopt a 'eat less and live longer' motto. I dunno whether i agree but i cant live on two slices wholemeal bread for breakfast day in day out throughout the year. What's the point of living longer when u r depriving urself of the little enjoyments in life?
Of course, now that im craving for all those stuff my grandma used to make, i also regret i never learnt to make any of those properly. My many ventures to try turned out to be quite disasters. Especially idli and tosai, u jus hv to get that right balance and fermentation. My hubby and daughter, who (God knows why) are the only ones who are happy to help polish off the near disasters why im lefting standing by the stove wondering how my grandma made it look so easy.
