Arundhati-The Movie

Not everyone likes curry. Not everyone likes TamilMovies. In fact the usual masala mix of boy meets girl, the usual ensuing problems, the pelvic thrusting dances, heroine skin shows, slapstick comedy by the usual comedians (ok,maybe you can watch Vadivelu again and again) and the predictable climax can numb your senses to sleep. But once in a while a masterpiece emerges that get you really thinking about it the next few days. Movies like Anniyan, Ghajini, Baba, Perazhagan, Pithamagan, Ayan and such... u know...stays with you. They are gems of Indian Cinema.

This one is not Tamil movie but Telugu dubbed in Tamil. I nearly missed watching it. Hubby as usual had bought a few latest DVDs and left them unwatched. It was my daughter who out of boredom a few days back put on this movie, Arundhati. I knew the name well but i had refrained fr watching it coz im not a fan of Anushka, the actress who i feel has not much of a talent anyway considering her role in Singham and such.

But i was bowled over. This movie, the storyline, the momentum, the logic, the special effects.... yes, even Anushka's acting, was mindblowing...totally gobsmacked. Those scenes where the old Jakkama image surfaces in the present Arundhati's face...wow! That just hit home for me. Because i was always a believer of the soul and it gets done what it needs to get done. Though the present incarnation Arundhati is somewhat of a scary scarecrow compared to the brave and valiant Jakkama of the past, it was the Arundhati's own ignorance that is used to make her step into that old mansion, hence bringing Jakkama a step closer to fulfilling her destiny.

Unlike usual Tamil movies involving power of good and Goddesses where the God/Goddesses appear in the climax scene to venge the villain that gets us thinking , where are the Gods these days?. In this movie however, the strength of the character came from her own soul's inner strenghth channeling the Jakkama Goddess's courage and made totally believable in modern times. The story line was thought out intelligently and got me all choked up inside...hats off Telugu Cinema!

My favourite scene where her Jakkama's past incarnation and soul memory resurfaces in the present Arundhati when finally confronted again with the preatma she put to samadhi.

This is the scene where she sacrifices her life in a really gory painful death in order to remember her vows in the next birth. Yup,mindblowing eh!

The haunting Jejjama/Jakkama song

The super cool climax scenes with all the latest special effects ud find in Lord of the Rings
