With monsoon showing no signs of relenting after raging on for a month now.. the days are damp and rather chilly in this hilly town. Been easy to fall sick..snorty nose, coughs, fever..you have it. Heat is needed to warm ailing tummies. Rasam with its potent dose of antibiotic garlic and spices has been on the daily menu. What's best to accompany it? I like the pretty basic, uncomplicated chili tofu or tauhu sambal.

Cut 3 regular tofus into four, saute to lightly brown the sides. Blend 1 large onions, 5 red chillies and a spoon of dried prawns (optional) into thick paste. Sweat 2 cloves of garlic in vegetable oil and follow with the blended paste. When onions start to crisp a bit, add tofus, salt, a squeeze of lime juice and a crushed stalk of lemongrass.
Goes well with rice and rasam as well as bread or like me, have it on its own between bites of cucumber.
