Post price increase... ud think local fruit would be cheaper option.. beep... wrong!
Even this gorgeous native fruit which used to grow in the wilds is now asking for 8 ringgit per kg.
Some idiots online keep repeating it as some 'unripen banana in snake skin'.. snake skin maybe.. but the taste is nowhere near banana .. tart, sweet, sour (astringent if not ripen) and can be moorish.
Texture varies to degree of ripeness. Indians call it Rotan Kai (translate 'cane fruit'). The fruit grow in clusters at the base of the palm. They are about the size and shape of a ripe fig. The fruit consists of lobes, with large seed inside each lobes.
Looks exotically gorgeous tho! Can imagine it as a deco item in an overpriced Balinese spa!
