Shiva the third of the trinity i.e. the destroyer of the universe at the end of each epoch is depicted as the sage warrior had remained celibate from beginning of time.. until.. some well meaning devotee decided it was enuf.
Thus Shakti was born and she performed severe penances to win Shiva's heart.
They were united in heavenly matrimonial bliss that also resulted in the world famous guide to erotika.. the Kama Sutra.
However.. as all good love stories must hv some moments of trials Shakti's father seriously insulted Shiva during a grand ritual. So she decided to annihilate herself in shame and disgust for having such a father.
Shiva.. broken hearted.. grabbed a lock of his hair.. split it into two that shook the whole universe and unleashed his fury.. in form of his famous Tandava.. the furious dance of Shiva.
To appease him...the sages and the rest of the trinity arranged to hv Shakti reborn again to a father worthy of her and the eternal lovers were reunited. Well.. thats the short story.
