Ramadhan (fasting) month is almost over for Muslims and we've probably seen varieties of these sweet gems all over town.
Personally, never quite fancied the over sweet stuff till this year i found a less sweet variety i got totally hooked on to. There's loads of contradicting data as per its nutritional values but im goin to look at the good news and deny the rest for the time being! (at least till i finish the fresh pack in my fridge)
With only 24 calories per date (they say considering some say 80% sugar...oh well!), dates are high in dietary fiber, carbohydrates, and contain more potassium than bananas! Yet they are virtually fat, cholesterol and sodium free!(mmmm?? oh well...) Dates provide essential vitamins and minerals - such as B-complex vitamins, magnesium and iron. Only a handful of dates - five or six - will help you meet your 5-A-Day goal for fruit.
Haiya yaiya yaiii!
