Preview of the next bestseller.. (cough! cough!)

Nearly ten years ago, a story was born. It took 5 years to realise the story and another 5 to write about it..

This is a story based on true life accounts of one woman’s life shattering experience with a world totally unfamiliar, strange and false,
illusions disguised as reality,
a man who abused her trust and love,
a man behind it all who drained her of everything she had,
physically, mentally and emotionally,
that nearly drove her to her death.

And finding the courage to break free
and her fight for her own sanity
and reclaiming her life.

Here's an excerpt..

Kay shot up straight from sleep. Where was she, totally disoriented for a few seconds. Her heart was beating so fast. She took a few deep breaths to calm herself. It was totally dark, where was the street-light that normally shone through her window curtains.

Funny, she thought, her bed felt so hard and uncomfortable. Then she remembered where she was. Where was Adam? She remembered before sleeping that the participants were separated, women on one side and men on the other side of the hall. She tried to squint her eyes and make through the pitch-blackness.

Something had woken her up. She had always slept well and deep and it was not easy to disturb her sleep. But something had definitely woken her up. An unusual fear caught hold of her heart.. almost against her will.

She thought she felt a presence at her feet. But she could hardly make anything out. She stilled herself to listen. The only noises were the humming of the air-conditioning and few quiet snores.

Why did these people have to switch all the lights off! She hated feeling scared and she was rather surprised that she was feeling scared even when she knew there were so many people around, fast asleep.

She wished she could call out to Adam, just to comfort herself. But that would wake others too and that would be embarrassing.

Then she remembered that her spot was right next to the door to the small room where she had seen the unusual tree. She tried to lie down and talk herself to sleep. There was no need to fear, maybe she was just feeling strange in a new place, and it was normal, she wanted to believe. She willed herself to sleep.

A few moments later, she slowly dozed off. She could have dozed off for a few minutes when suddenly, her eyes flew open again, what was that?! She definitely felt something at her feet. It was as though there was someone or something there but it can’t be possible! She uttered all the prayers that she knew, hoping that the fear would go away. Should she call out for help? But her stronger fear of embarassing herself overcome her. No! Just ignore it! She scolded herself.

Maybe she was hallucinating. Could it be the withdrawal effect from the beta-blockers she had stopped taking a few days ago? A psychologist had prescribed her the pills to help her stay calm in social situations. She had been taking them for a year now but on an impulse, she decided to come off it. It had side effects that made her uncomfortable. Irritability and hints of hysteria. Besides she already had low-blood pressure and these beta-blockers were bringing them down even more.

She laid back thinking and tried to relax. Yea, probably that could be it. This unknown fear. She remembered a new meditation technique she had learned from a book. She tried to concentrate on her nostrils and count her breaths. Within a few seconds, she felt herself go within. Suddenly like a flash in her inner vision, she saw vague image of tree roots creeping out from under the door next to her and trying to climb onto her.

NO!! She opened her eyes, her heart beating faster. There were no such things!! It was just her imagination!! She was fully awake now. She dare not get back to sleep and laid down there for a long time bracing herself. It seemed like nearly one long hour. Thoughts after thoughts muddled her mind. She jumped when an alarm clock went off in a far corner of the hall. She heard someone fumble with it and switch it off. Is it time to wake already she wondered. She felt annoyed she had hardly slept. Someone switched on the light in the audio room, there were hushed whispers. Wake up time.
