My other half decided to send Shamo and I surprise gifts and it was a nice surprise! Shamo is excited wit her new music keyboard and karaoke while I received a beautiful sculpture of Royal Ease Quan Yin!
It is very meaningful for me.
Quan-Yin is Goddess of Mercy, an embodiment of Amitabha Buddha. As far as I know, Quan Yin is a bodhisattva (embodiment of buddha who prefers to stay back on earth to help others to reach spiritual heights). She was actually a 'he' , the firsts of Buddha's devout disciples who came to China upon Buddha's request to spread Buddhism. But he specifically requested to appear as 'he' and 'she' as to endear him to both sexes. In this position that is called Royal Ease, Quan Yin is seated upon a weathered stone from which healing waters pour, ready to rise and help those in need. She is often shown holding a vase containing the waters of compassion, the lotus flower of enlightment or the jewel of three treasures. Here, Kuan-Yin images the equipoise we aspire to while immersed in our daily round. Her distinctly androgynous features emphasize the tao of yin and yang, the dance of opposites in balance, which creates inner peace. Quan-Yin corresponds with Artemis, Greek goddess of field and forest andto the healing Celtic water-goddess Sequana.
