Something happened to a young person** yesterday brought back unpleasant memories of my growing up years. It got me thinking again.
**check out http://blog.thestar.com.my/permalink.asp?id=6518 for the whole story.
Do we really need to teach our children uncompromising virtues? Because the real world is full of compromises. Do we need to teach our children true honesty when the real world is thriving by manipulating it? Do we need to teach our children ultimate fairness and justice when power can be abused to render someone else powerless to defend himself? Do we need to teach them humility when it is treated more like a sign of weakness than courage?
Why do we keep teaching our children these idealistic notions when we ourselves as a community of this world are living a different story? Full of hypocrisy, compromise and abuse.
Probably thats why there comes a point in their lives, when our kids come out their fairytale notions, they start looking at us differently, some even delusioned by the real world. Some even angry at us for raising them around lies. An unpleasant awakening. Why do we betray them so?
The strange part, even then, afterwards, we still continue living in this self woven web of lies for many reasons, cause it is the only way to survive.
