Is Personality an Overated thing?

Personality is so important in the world today. Everything's about it, in many ways. This image conscious world is all over a person's charisma, look and marketability. But is it really a true measurement of that person's character or capability? Look for instances, we have a local famous reality show produced singer (hic! hic) who sings as good as most of us do in the bathroom, yet, the same person is supposed to be our best of singers? Coz of personality? Coz the person is socially acceptable? So what happens to the REAL singers. The real talented, good ones, who may not have the same so called 'personality' dictated by the society and media?

Or someone can be a total louse but he could hide behind his charisma e.g. most cult leaders are full of charisma, but are we headed in the right way following them? This is just an extreme example. But let's take a look around us.

In vacancy section of most classifieds, its about pleasant personality. Of course we never know what the person truly is, as long as you can exhibit the standard personality, you are acceptable? Is it just hypocrisy reinventing itself over and over?

Look into movies, the good person always has this stereotype clean, good looking, almost angelic face and the 'villain' has some deformities or ugly. Years and years of visual programming has ingrained into us an instant dislike to people who are unfortunate enough to have the villain's look though God bless, that person in real life may have a heart of gold!!

But we all know in real life, things can always be reversed. There's no assuming. The one that looked 'good' can turn out to be the worst kind.

So coming back to the question, is personality really overated? Or is it the term of personality is no longer what it was intended to be, a relection of a person's true values and genuinely living those values?
